Introducing Repair Cafe in Sydney

Recently, I wrote about a quick solution to fixing a zipper in my haversack.

Related to that post, I feel that I need to inform Sydney residents of a little-known gem in our midst in the form a community of volunteers who reside in the Sydney north shore. They represent what is called the Repair Cafe Sydney North (website: click here ) run by a small group of good samaritan volunteers with wide-ranging expertise – very much admired by me!

On the first two Sundays of every month, these volunteers gather in Chatswood South Uniting Church (corner of Mowbray Road and Pacific Hwy)  – lending their skills to help and encourage us to fix our broken household and personal items – instead of throwing them out and contributing to land fill.

They are an amazingly welcoming and warm group of people who are so eager to stop and help, in the midst of our very hectic life in Sydney. I have had items fixed beautifully by them with utmost warmth and generosity. In the process, I have been motivated and empowered to try to fix other household items myself.

It goes to show how a few people’s collective effort, generosity and determination can make such a huge positive difference to our community.

Well done Repair Cafe, you guys are an inspiration!
